Jacinda Ardern delays OWN wedding: New Zealand on Covid red alert after just 9 cases

Prime minister Ardern has placed the nation under renewed harsh restrictions. From 11.59 pm on Sunday night, all of the nation’s residents will be subject to new Covid restrictions. The new lockdown measures come after a cluster of nine Omicron cases were detected in a community.

Ms Ardern went on to announce that she was postponing her wedding.

She decided to delay because she said she was “no different to other New Zealanders”.

The Prime Minister of New Zealand was due to wed her television host fiancé Clarke Gayford this summer.

The wedding was to take place in Gisborne on the North Island.

She was engaged to Mr Gayford in early 2019.

“One of the most important things that people can do is to make sure you and your family have a buddy, like a neighbour or a friend, who can help you out by delivering things that you need if you do become unwell.”

In New Zealand, masks are now required in hospitality and retail, schools, airports, public transport, and public buildings.

The move has led Professor Francois Balloux Director of UCL Genetics Institute to state: “I’m not sure there’s a strategy behind NZ’s pandemic response, i.e. a plan with realistic milestones and endpoints.”

Hospitality outlets can stay open, but they have a cap on the number of customers.

There is now a 100 customer limit with those wishing to enter hospitality venues needing to show their vaccine passports.

Everyone who enters a hospitality venue must stay seated.
