GB News: Dan Wootton bashes ‘scheming Sturgeon’ over new Omicron rules – ‘Covid hysteric!’

New Zealand-born journalist Dan Wootton, 38, has criticised Nicola Sturgeon’s, 51, actions throughout the Omicron wave, dubbing her a “Covid hysteric”. The Scottish First Minister announced the Covid restrictions will be lifted next monday after they were put in place before Christmas to curb the rapid spread of the heavily mutated Omicron variant.

Nightclubs will be allowed to reopen, social distancing will no longer be enforced and the three-household limit indoors will come to an end, Ms Sturgeon announced.

She said the nation has “turned the corner on the Omicron wave”.

However, Mr Wootton was not too convinced the restrictions were necessary in the first place.

Mr Wootton, who was executive editor of the Sun, said the measures were “totally over the top” when presenting GB News on Tuesday.

Speaking at Holyrood, Ms Sturgeon said the data suggested Omicron peaked in Scotland in the first week of January and “we are now on the downward slope of this wave of cases”.

In Scotland, Covid cases were down from 36,526 new cases on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of last week to 20,268 cases reported this Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

After criticising the Scottish first Minister’s decisions, Mr Wootton expressed hope in Boris Johnson’s, 57, announcement as the Prime Minister is set to announce the easing of Plan B this morning.

The Prime Minister will go through the latest Covid data this morning with his ministers, before making a statement to MPs.

Mr Wootton said: “I hope Boris will do much better tomorrow when he is expected to unravel Plan B.”
