Felicity Cornelius-Mercer, Mr Mercer’s wife, shared the news as an update on Twitter. According to Mr Mercer’s wife, the MP had spent the afternoon watching FA Cup and Six Nations contests. Mr Mercer’s wife shared a photo on Twitter on Saturday of her husband sitting on a sofa.
In the photograph, Mr Mercer can be seen with his head thrown back as though he is in a deep sleep.
She then described how Mr Johnson had called Mr Mercer after he had spent the day following his local football team Plymouth Argyle’s loss to Chelsea.
Ms Felicity Cornelius-Mercer tweeted: “So funny story the Prime Minister rang tonight directly after an afternoon of FA Cup football and England rugby.
“Johnny Mercer was so pissed he can’t remember what was said.

“I am tee-total and J rarely drinks except big sports days.

The tweets caused outrage online, but some people saw the funny side.
Some people suggested that she should tell her husband he had agreed to do an early-morning round of media interviews.
One Twitter user called Martin tweeted a reply stating: “Tell him he agreed to do the media round tomorrow.”
