Tiffany’s The World’s Fair Necklace becomes luxury jeweler’s most expensive EVER item

New York luxury jeweler Tiffany has launched its most expensive item in its 184-year history – a diamond necklace valued at up to $30 million.

‘The World’s Fair Necklace’, which took a total of two years to create, features a dazzling display of 180 carats of diamonds set in platinum.

Its show-stopping centerpiece is an 80-carat oval D-color flawless ‘Empire Diamond’ – named after the Empire State Building – which was ethically sourced in Botswana, before being cut and polished in Israel and set in Tiffany’s workshop in New York City

While the American jeweler has not revealed the exact figure, industry experts have estimated the necklace’s value at between $20 and $30 million, as reported WWD.

The World’s Fair Necklace is a reimagined necklace that the company originally designed for the World’s Fair in 1939.

The original, which featured 429 diamonds and sold at $28,000 at the time, was set with an aquamarine stone which totaled an impressive 200 carats.

In comparison, the new version boasts a staggering 578 diamonds – amongst them 353 round brilliant stones and 224 custom-cut baguette diamonds – while the 80-carat D color flawless diamond replaces the original’s aquamarine stone as the focal point of the necklace.

Tiffany’s new mega diamond – which can also be removed from the World’s Fair Necklace and mounted onto a ring by the help of a Tiffany jeweler – was revealed in Dubai last weekend as part of Tiffany’s Blue Book event.

It is only beaten in size by the famous 128.54-carat ‘Tiffany Diamond’, but the brand labeled that as ‘priceless’ and so it is not for sale.

Worn by only four women, the ‘Tiffany Diamond’ has only been displayed on a few special occasions – including by Beyoncé in the ABOUT LOVE Tiffany & Co. campaign where she stood beside husband Jay-Z.

The musician posed with her longtime partner wearing a fitted white dress with a plunging neckline.

It framed the famous 128-carat yellow diamond necklace previously worn by Audrey Hepburn and Lady Gaga.

Beyoncé is just the fourth female – and the first black woman – to ever wear the gem.
