Greta Thunberg argued it is “strange” for Joe Biden to be considered a leader in climate change considering his Administration’s stance on the use of fossil fuels. The US leader pledged to crack down on new gas and oil leases as part of his electoral manifesto but he has yet to follow through on his pledge. Ms Thunberg noted the Biden Administration has also been expanding fossil infrastructure.
Speaking to the Washington Post, the Swedish activist said: “If you call him a leader — I mean, it’s strange that people think of Joe Biden as a leader for the climate when you see what his administration is doing.
“The US is actually expanding fossil fuel infrastructure. Why is the US doing that?
“It should not fall on us activists and teenagers who just want to go to school to raise this awareness and to inform people that we are actually facing an emergency.”
Ms Thunberg also hit out at her own Government’s inaction to tackle the climate emergency.
