The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed the news this evening – just hours after Met Police Chief Cressida Dick confirmed she was standing down. It follows allegations that officers shared inappropriate messages concerning the kidnap, rape and murder of the 33-year-old marketing executive.
Former Met Police armed protection officer Wayne Couzens tricked her into getting into a rented car near Clapham Common, London on the pretence that she has broken Covid rules last March.
He later drove her to a field in Kent where he raped and murdered her before setting fire to her body in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Couzens, 48, was given a whole life term for his crimes in September.
In a statement to Channel 4 News IOPC spokesperson said: “Our investigation into sending and sharing of inappropriate messages by officers on WhatsApp has been completed.
