The publication explained how the supermarket still has “a range of safety measures in all of our stores, including screens and sanitising stations”.
Express.co.uk has contacted Sainsbury’s for confirmation.
Some members of the public took to Twitter to discuss Sainsbury’s decision.
One with the username @carwash2016 contacted the company directly and said:“@sainsburys I read that you are going to get people to wear face masks in England after the 27th January in your stores as this isn’t a legal restriction on what law is this going to be based on.”
Sainsbury’s official Twitter account replied: “We will follow government guidance and continue with the range of measures we have in place to keep everyone safe in our stores. Thanks, Rachel.”
