New Year’s Eve celebrations are kicking off across the world with a dazzling firework display set to start off the new year in Sydney, at 10am (GMT).
It is the height of summer in Australia and onlookers will be enjoying the fireworks while basking in 26C heat.
Elsewhere in the world, many New Year’s celebrations have been cancelled, such as the famous riverside fireworks display in London, which has been called off for the second year running, due to the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
Boris Johnson has said he believes “everyone should enjoy New Year” but that they should be sensible and do so with caution.
