New Year tragedy after teenager killed in horror motorbike crash

Police and emergency services were called shortly after 3.30pm to Sillogue Road in Ballymun following reports of a collision involving a motorcycle. A 19-year-old man was seriously injured when his bike struck a lamppost.

He was sadly pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

A cordon and road diversions have been put in place by police officers.

Gardai Forensic Collison investigators were also deployed to the scene.

A spokesman for Gardai Síochána (national police service in the Republic of Ireland) has urged anyone with information to come forward.

Officers are particularly interested in any motorists with dash-cam footage.

A Gardai spokesman told Dublin Live: “The scene is being examined by Garda Forensic Collison investigators and the road is currently closed at the crash site.

“Local diversions are in place. The deceased has been removed to the Dublin City Morgue and the Coroner has been notified.

“Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

“Those with camera footage from the area at the time (including dash-cam) are asked to make it available to Gardaí.”

Tributes for the teenager poured in on social media in the hours following his tragic death.

Briege Mac Oscar, Dublin City Councillor for Finglas, Glasnevin and Ballymun, tweeted: “Very sad news of a young man losing his life in a bike accident in Ballymun today.

“Tragic for his family and the community. RIP.”
