Merseyside Police launches murder probe after woman dies in Christmas Eve pub shooting

Merseyside Police has launched a murder investigation after a woman was killed and three people were injured during a shooting at a pub on Christmas Eve. 

Officers were called to the incident at the Lighthouse Inn in Wallasey Village just after 11.50pm yesterday.

A woman was pronounced dead after being taken to hospital with an injury which was described as “consistent with a gunshot wound”.

Her next of kin have been informed and her family are being supported by trained officers, England’s sixth-largest force confirmed. 

Three men were also admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds.

A number of other people were injured in the incident.

In an update, Merseyside Police went on to reveal its investigation is “underway” as the area has been cordoned off while officers carry out witness enquiries and examine CCTV footage.

Detective Superintendent Dave McCaughrean said: “This investigation is in the very early stages and we understand that this is a truly shocking and devastating incident that has happened just before Christmas Day in a busy venue full of young people.  

“We have a number of officers at Wallasey Village who are carrying out extensive enquiries to understand exactly what has taken place and take immediate action.
