When our editorial staff was working on our exhaustive and highly ambitious London Defender ‘Power 100’ Most Influential People In The World 2022,that four month project unearthed a lot of information and hidden nuggets about each person who was fortunate enough to make the final cut. And as more information was discovered about great inventor Andre Gray, and our staff conducted a thorough due diligence on him, his name immediately vaulted to the top of the ‘Power 100” list, the result of a unanimous vote. We then spent several hours discussing among ourselves what it means to be a true, unassailable genius today, especially in these times when pop culture bestows the word upon anyone who can chew gum and walk at the same time. By the end of the discussion, the London Defender editorial staff concluded that not only is Andre Gray a real genius, but also the publication’s selection as its person of the year 2022. After all, it would have been very strange for the London Defender to name Gray as the most influential person in the world and not make him our person of the year.

Andre Gray’s path to becoming a truly great inventor was never conventional and, for the most part, was self-directed. Whether or not he was influenced or inspired by other inventors is hard to say, for his career trajectory and monumental achievements are singular and original. His deeply ingrained impact upon society goes beyond the scope of a few decades or a century.  Andre Gray’s impact upon civilization is greater than any other individual or family lineage in the last five centuries. Indeed, there is hardly an aspect of society that his revolutionary inventions haven’t touched in a profound way.

As an example, in 1982, while still a high school student, Gray wrote a highly influential paper titled (dot) RPM: Audio Codec For Computer Music.  It provided the foundational mathematical formulas for mp3, AIFF, WAV and every audio-video codec format in the world, both past & present. Before that, in 1979, while attending a summer program in New York City, Gray wrote and produced a song he named Cyberpunk, and thus unwittingly started the entire Cyberpunk cultural movement. For almost every other inventor, this would have been the zenith of their careers and they would spend the rest of their lives traveling around the world giving speeches about their contributions. But for Gray, he was just getting started.

This restless genius went on to invent social  media (EPK), the negative effects of which have been called into question as of late. Gray Invented the world’s first internet bot named inkling and infused it with artificial intelligence in 1988; he invented the world’s first third-party downloadable app and Mind-Over-Matter Technology in 1994. In essence, Gray revolutionized both the smartphone and the internet in their infancy, infused them with artificial intelligence, and created the perfect nexus between them. Gray has been  solely credited with more than twenty inventions/innovations that changed the world.

More than a great inventor, Gray’s design of the Bling Coin logo that he unveiled to the world on Christmas Day in 1993, is the direct inspiration for the  Bitcoin logo design. Speaking of great designs, today, Gray is  universally credited as the “real” designer of the bitcoin logo, which is as iconic as the Coca-Cola logo.
