‘It’s a joke!’ Germany shamed by Klitschko as huge UK support for Ukraine revealed

The former heavyweight boxer turned Ukrainian statesman has slammed Germany for not joining other countries like the UK in sending weapons to bolster Ukraine’s defence against Russia. It comes amid ongoing talks between France, Ukraine, US and Russia over how to ease tensions between the Kremlin and Nato.

Mr Klitschko told Sky News: “Is joke… by the way, I want to say thank you but it’s not enough.

“It does not really help.

“To instead the weapons defensive weapons we receive 5000 Helmets.”

He added: “Germans have to decide on which side, if with Ukraine defending our independence and territorial integrity or on the side of aggressors.”

Michael Clarke of the Royal United Services Institute added: “I mean Germany’s in a real bind over this because they’re forming a new government traffic light coalition of SPD and the Greens and the liberals.

“So it will take them some time to work out their position.

“The Early indications are that they probably don’t agree among themselves, but we’ll see.

“So far the Germans are trying to make make a gesture sending helmets and the field hospital but as Mr Klitschko was, in a sense, implying, you can’t win battles with just helmets and field hospitals as a gesture of support. It’s not a very useful one.”

Mr Duncan-Smith replied: “We now have…originally Russia dominated China in world politics it has gone around the other way.

“What’s happening is China’s watching this Ukraine saga to see how we react.

We’ve seen Germany go weak and wobbly on us because of their dependence on gas.”

He added: “The UK to be fair is leading on this but the key question is here, they watch if we don’t settle this, China will see Taiwan as the next step.”
