The 46-year-old history teacher was found dead in Bateswood Nature Reserve. The man, Kevin Green, had been interviewed by Staffordshire Police amid an ongoing investigation. An inquest was told that police had taken him into custody two days before his body was found.
The father-of-one was found in the are near Stoke-On-Trent.
A representative told Stoke-on-Trent Coroners’ Court: “There was contact between the police and Mr Green before he passed away.
“There was an ongoing investigation he was assisting with.
“This led to police contact with him.
“He came into custody and had an interview.
“Following the interview, he was taken home by a police officer and the investigating officer.
“Police visited him on October 7.
“They didn’t see anything of concern.
“The officer asked how he was feeling.
“He felt better knowing the investigation was coming to an end.
“He did appear distressed.
“The only matter that I believe didn’t meet the level of service is that on his release from custody a list of contacts for support would be given, and that was not given to him on his release.
“The officer asked him about his physical health and mental health concerns.
“They asked about his feelings and if he wanted to speak to anyone.
