Despite being on the losing end of one of the most historic finals in Australian Open history, Daniil Medvedev was able to see the lighter side as he cracked jokes in his post-match press conference.
The Russian led the final by two sets to love against Rafael Nadal but the Spaniard battled back to win his 21st and record-breaking Grand Slam title.
The match was a gruelling five hours and 24 minutes and trickled into the following day as the Melbourne crowd were treated to one of the all-time great games.

Afterwards, Medvedev joked that he asked Nadal if he was tired.
‘It’s tough to talk after five hours 30 and losing,’ Medvedev said in his post-match speech.
‘I was amazed [by him]. After the match I asked him like “are you tired?” because it was insane.’

‘I tried to play but I was really tired. The level was really high.
‘You raised the level after two sets, I thought you might get tired. You are an amazing champion. You guys have a great rivalry and it is not over yet.’
After praising Nadal, the 25-year-old took time to thank his team and also joked that his wife may have broken their TV back at home.
‘I want to thank my two guys in my box who were here all week. I hope we have more victories to come.

‘I thank my wife but I think maybe the TV is broken now. I want to thank my team, I will forget someone but thanks for being with me.
‘My parents, if you are still watching. I thank you for your support and I will try to be better next time.’
As well as Nadal, Medvedev also made history by becoming the first male player to reach the final of the grand slam that came immediately after their first grand slam win.
