Child with rare ‘Benjamin Button’ age disorder dies at just 15 years old

Adalia Rose Williams inspired people the world over, living with progeria which is an extremely rare, progressive genetic disorder that causes children to age faster than usual. An internet sensation, Adalia amassed almost three million followers on her YouTube channel, sharing her life experiences and makeup tutorials.

Her family broke the sad news on Facebook, stating: “January 12, 2022 at 7pm Adalia Rose Williams was set free from this world.

“She came into it quietly and left quietly, but her life was far from it.

“She touched MILLIONS of people and left the biggest imprint in everyone that knew her. She is no longer in pain and is now dancing away to all the music she loves.

“I really wish this wasn’t our reality but unfortunately it is. We want to say thank you to everyone that loved and supported her.

“Thank you to all her doctors and nurses that worked for YEARS to keep her healthy.

“The family would now like to mourn this huge loss in private.”

Adalia, who lived in Texas in the United States, drew praise from her many followers for her bravery and beauty.

She was compared to Benjamin Button from the hit film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button in which Brad Pitt stars as a man who ages backwards.

Her clips accrued 170 million views on the video-sharing platform YouTube before the disease really took hold.

Growth of a child with progeria slows markedly in the first year of life, although development of motor skills and intelligence are usually unaffected.

The disorder affects only about 500 people across the world with a life expectancy of just 13.

It can lead to hair loss, thinning skin and a high-pitched voice.

One user on Facebook, addressing Adalia’s parents, said: “I’m so sorry Natalia and Ryan. Adalia lived life to the fullest each and every day.

“She touched so many people through her videos and taught us all to never take anything for granted. Fly high sweet angel!”

A second added: “An inspiration to do many. So sad.”

Another said: “She was a special person that gave joy to many all over the planet. She will always be with you.”

A YouTube user said: “You brought so much joy to everyone. Watching you conquer all the hurdles in your life with a smile on your face was truly astounding.

“Your personality, sense of humour and zest for life was beyond compare.

“May your memories serve as a reminder to everyone to be kind to one another.”
