US troops to arrive in Poland today after Biden promise to ‘defend our NATO allies’

According to US defence sources, American troops are expected to land in Poland today, an expert claimed. US president Joe Biden has sent nearly 3,000 US troops to Eastern Europe to counter the threat from Russia The US fears that Russia is planning an invasion of Ukraine.

A claim that Moscow has repeatedly denied.

Washington has offered to talk to Moscow over the rising tensions, but so far the US has rejected Russia’s main demands.

Moscow has deployed more than 100,000 troops near Ukraine’s borders.

Russia said it could take unspecified military measures if its demands are not met.

Mr Biden said the deployment was consistent with what he had told Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Mr Biden sent a message to Mr Putin and a reassurance to US allies, saying, “as long as he is acting aggressively we’re going to make sure we can reassure our NATO allies and Eastern Europe that we’re there.”

Pentagon spokesperson John Kirby said the deployment of US troops was a “strong signal” to Mr Putin.

“Hopefully it won’t come to that.”

During UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson accused Russia of holding a gun to Ukraine’s head, adding that an incursion by Russia into Ukraine would be a “tragic miscalculation” and they had agreed to apply a “spirit of dialogue”.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov responded and said: “Russia and President Putin are open to communicating with everyone.

“Even to someone who is utterly confused.”
