Scared and dirty dog cruelly dumped in cage on side of road – RSPCA appeal

The black and brown dog, called Elsa, was taken to the RSPCA Brent Knoll Animal Centre on January 27 by a member of the public.

Elsa was in a poor condition when she was found on her own in the cage on the roadside with a dirty coat and overgrown nails.

It is thought she had been used for breeding before she was cruelly abandoned.

Despite her ordeal, Elsa is described as a “lovely dog”.

She is microchipped but the details are not up to date.

The RSPCA is calling on anyone with information about the incident to contact them.

Animal rescue officer Alison Sparkes said: “It’s shocking to think that someone simply intentionally abandoned her, leaving her all alone in a cage at the side of the road.

“Thankfully, she was discovered by a member of the public who was able to bring her to safety with the team at RSPCA Brent Knoll Animal Centre.

“Elsa is such a lovely dog and is doing really well in the care of the team at the centre who are showing her the love and care she deserves.

Ms Sparkes warned the RSPCA is expecting more unwanted dogs after people rushed to buy pets during lockdown.

She said: “We are sadly seeing abandonments rise month on month and are braced for a surge of abandoned and neglected animals as pet ownership soared during lockdown, with an estimated 3.2m people welcoming pets into their lives last year.

“We’re asking people to Join the Rescue this winter to help us help animals and bring abandoned animals to safety.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the RSPCA on 0300 123 8018.
