Campus horror as police swarm English university after stabbing – man rushed to hospital

Detectives were called to the Nottingham Trent University’s Clifton Campus, off Clifton Lane, at 10.41am on Monday (January 31). Nottinghamshire Police confirmed that a male victim has been taken to hospital for treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The police added that a man in his 40s was arrested in connection with the incident shortly afterwards and remains in police custody.

Detectives are also appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward by calling 101 and quoting incident 198 of 31 January 2022.

Detective Chief Inspector Richard Bull, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “We are still at the very early stages of our investigation and our thoughts at this time are with the victim and his family, who have been contacted.

“We are working hard to understand what happened but do believe this to be an isolated incident.”

The university is also working alongside the force and is offering support to anyone who has been affected by the incident.

A spokesperson for Nottingham Trent University said: “We are working with Nottinghamshire Police with regards to an incident that occurred earlier this morning on our Clifton Campus.

“We are offering support to any students and colleagues who may have been affected.”

Students of the university said they had no idea what had happened.

One said: “I saw the police cars as I was walking past the pavilion – there were loads of them.

“I hadn’t even heard there had been an incident.

“Hopefully no one is badly hurt because you always think the worst when you see so many police.”

While another student told Nottinghamshire Live: “Everybody is talking about it.

“I went downstairs out of my lecture building and I saw all the police and the tape and everything.

“I didn’t even know if I was going to be able to leave my building or not.”
