Police have sealed off a family home in the Stechford area of the city. The bodies of a woman, 21, and a man, 47, were discovered as officers forced entry into a property in Swancote Road.
The pair, who have been described as a couple by a senior West Midlands Police officer, were pronounced dead at the scene just before 9.30pm on Thursday.
Chief Superintendent Mat Shaer from Birmingham East Police, said: “This is truly awful and my heart goes out to the couple’s family and friends.
“It was clear that nothing could be done to save the man or woman.
“No doubt this will come as a huge shock to neighbours and the local community. But we believe this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the wider public.”
Police said specially trained family liaison officers have been supporting relatives. Further details of the deaths remain unknown.
Postmortem examinations are due to take place later today.
The bodies were discovered by police responding to concerns over the “couple’s” silence.
Fears were raised last night after they failed to answer calls or reply to messages.
