Boy, 13, is fighting for life after being shot in the back in Birmingham

A 13-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being shot in the back as he walked down the street in Birmingham. 

The child, aged just 13, was discovered with a gunshot wound in Birmingham, West Midlands, last night. 

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition with his injuries described as being life-changing. 

Emergency crews – including armed police officers – raced to the scene shortly after 7pm last night after the boy was found slumped in the underpass.

Hockley Circus is one of the city’s main arterial roads joining the city and the M5 motorway.

It will remain closed this morning as forensics teams comb for clues.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: ‘We are urgently appealing to anyone in the area with any information.

‘This is a busy area with lots of motorists, so we’re asking anyone with dash-cams to check their footage as this may help us identify the people responsible.

‘Also if you witnessed anything, please contact us as this information could provide integral to our investigation.’

Witness Imran Hameed was driving under the flyover when he came across the police scene.

He said: ‘There was about eight or nine regular police cars and undercover cars.

‘The officers were dotted around.

‘There was one by the underpass which was taped off. There was another officer by the other entrance to the underpass opposite.

‘There was no ambulance.’

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service added: ‘We were called to reports of a gunshot incident near to Hockley Circus in Birmingham at 7.16pm last night.

‘One ambulance, two paramedic officers and a MERIT trauma doctor attended the scene. On arrival we discovered one patient, a teenage male, who was treated for serious injuries before being taken to hospital for further treatment.’
