Heartbreak for abandoned lonely dog after NOBODY turns up for Valentine’s Day party

Luke, a stray mixed-breed, has spent six months in the care of Battersea Cats and Dogs charity but hasn’t received any luck in finding new owners. Staff at the centre threw the five-year-old pooch a romantic Valentine’s Day date in the hope he’d find a loving family to take him home.

However, there was no puppy love on the agenda, as poor Luke was left alone as nobody showed up.

Luke has been left unlucky in love for a while and has had a long search for the one, after spending 206 days at the charity’s Kent branch.

The Mirror reports that Luke has been on his own for five times longer than the average dog that comes into a Battersea home.

Staff believe that the reason for Luke being left on his own for so long is because he’s a little insecure when it comes to building relationships with other dogs.

Despite being a relatively large dog himself, he can be a bit tentative and frightened around other pooches at times and is looking for a family who can show him how to be more confident in his day-to-day life.

Michelle Bevan, centre manager at Battersea Brands Hatch said: “Valentine’s Day is a time to show your appreciation for those you care about, so it’s heartbreaking knowing that Luke will be spending the day without anybody to love after nobody came to meet him for a date.”

Despite not having a date with a prospective new owner, Battersea staff were on hand to show Luke plenty of love and affection instead.

Michelle describes Luke as “just a big softie”, and that the pooch “enjoys nothing more than to cuddle up by a radiator with his favourite people and a cuddly toy”.

This means Luke’s perfect match will be someone who lives in a quiet location, and who will join him on long, romantic walks.

The pup also suffers from some ear and skin issues, and so is looking for someone to help manage this with a healthy, balanced diet.

Michelle adds that Luke has “so much love” to give but is just waiting for that perfect person to come along.

Michelle said: “Luke may have a few quirks, but he really does have so much love to offer the right person. He may not be perfect but is absolutely worth it.”
