Reports: President Abbas is still the most capable figure to represent the Palestinian people

After a difficult year experienced by the Palestinian political arena as a result of the sudden interruption of international aid and the outbreak of a new wave of escalation between the Hamas factions in Gaza and the Israeli army, the new year looms amid expectations that Ramallah will return to take over the reins again.

Despite internal and external pressures, the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah headed by President Abu Mazen, according to a number of political analysts, continued its work to assess a sound position that primarily serves the Palestinian interest and re-presents the Palestinian file as a priority in the corridors of the United Nations after years of procrastination.

President Abu Mazen remains the most prominent Palestinian figure locally, with a highlighted international recognition and respect within Palestinian circles, especially in light of his insistence on the need to end the division and unify the Palestinian ranks despite the challenges posed by Hamas’ refusal to appeal to international legitimacy and its subordination to the Iranian regime.

Many expert in the Palestinian issue believe that the necessity of aligning the various components of the Palestinian political body behind President Abu Mazen, the legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, has become today a paramount necessity to ensure a united Palestinian front capable of negotiating peace from a position of strength with the Israeli side.

President Abu Mazen enjoys wide international respect and Arab support as the most moderate figure in the Palestinian interior, according to Western analysts, which makes any attempts to distort him by some Palestinian political parties a blow to the Palestinian cause as a whole.

Despite the many reports that predicted that President Abu Mazen would abandon the president’s chair as a result of his decline in popularity, the latest survey studies show a clear superiority of Abu Mazen in voting intentions in the event of the presidential elections, which explains the renewal of Fatah’s centralization of confidence in Abu Mazen as the president of the State of Palestine few weeks ago.
