Tyson Fury has backed his namesake for the hypothetical heavyweight title, insisting Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk would both be ‘chinned’ by a prime Mike Tyson.
The Gypsy King is awaiting news on his next fight, with Usyk and Joshua alongside Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora as candidates to kick-off 2022 – with Frank Warren looking at a late-March date.
The Ukrainian holds the WBA, IBF, WBO belts – missing only Fury’s WBC title – and AJ wants them back, triggering his rematch clause after losing in Tottenham back in September last year.
Mike Tyson believes Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk would have no chance against him
Usyk beat an uninspired Joshua on points in September last year, with the Brit losing his titles
Never one to pass-up an opportunity for a dig, Fury repurposed a tweet by Iron Mike two days after AJ’s shock defeat for more mind games.
The 55-year-old Tyson wrote: ‘After watching the Joshua vs Usyk fight, maybe they had a bad day that night. From that performance do you really think they could have beat me in my prime?’
The six-foot-nine champion added: ‘@MikeTyson, you would have chinned the pair of p******.’
By his nineteenth professional fight, Tyson’s name struck fear across all five continents. His murderous aura, earth-shaking knockout force and unpredictable, maverick nature cultivated a reputation like no other in the sport’s history.

Mike Tyson’s knockouts shook the world and created an aura unmatched before or since
By his first-round annihilation of Carl Williams in 1989, Tyson had flattened the likes of Michael Spinks, Frank Bruno and Larry Holmes. His prime years were defining days for boxing.
Defeats to Usyk and Andy Ruiz have seen Joshua’s reputation plummet since losing his unbeaten tag. He was once seen as the man best equipped to challenge Fury but will surely never be considered among the finest of his generation without a crushing retaliation against Usyk.
The Ukrainian pound-for-pound great pulled-off an incredible upset in September, and shouldn’t be discounted from causing more disruption at heavyweight after moving up the divisions. Questions remain over how he’d handle the sheer size of Fury, though.
The Gypsy King has been ordered to fight Dillian Whyte next as a mandatory challenger to his WBC belt, having emerged victorious from his historic trilogy with Deontay Wilder.
